Can anyone connect to my computer without my say-so?

No. With attended support, a session only starts when you enter a one-time code and click to approve it. Unattended access only exists on computers where you’ve agreed to install it, and you can remove it at any time.

Why it works this way

Remote access tools are powerful, which is exactly why consent has to be built in. If a stranger can’t start a session, a stranger can’t take over your screen.

What you’ll see

  • A prompt asking you to allow the connection
  • A visible indicator while someone is connected
  • A button to end the session immediately

A word of warning

Scammers often phone people or show alarming pop-ups, then ask them to install remote access software. A genuine support provider won’t contact you out of the blue and pressure you to let them in. If that happens, hang up or close the window. Our guide on spotting a tech support scam lists the red flags.
