What do I need for a solid home-office setup?

A reliable internet connection, a comfortable chair and desk, a headset with a decent microphone, and a webcam at eye level cover most of it. A second monitor is the upgrade people tend to wish they’d made sooner.

Connection

If Wi-Fi drops at your desk, try moving the router, adding a mesh point, or using a network cable. A wired connection is the most dependable option for video calls.

Sound and picture

  • A headset cuts echo and background noise
  • Light your face from the front, not from a window behind you
  • Raise the camera to eye level with a stand or a stack of books

Comfort

Put the top of the screen roughly at eye level, keep your keyboard at elbow height, and give your feet somewhere flat to rest. Long days add up.
